Embark on a journey that will propel you into the far future to reimagine Te-Whanganui-a-Tara as we know it today. Koki Ake Te Oro is a long-form poem by acclaimed poet and artist Debbie Broughton (Ngāti Haumia, Taranaki Iwi). In 2024, this poem takes the shape of a walking audio tour narrated by future descendants of Ngāti Haumia of Te Aro Pā .
The tour begins on the Wellington Waterfront behind Te Papa, and ends at the Kupe Statue outside Te Raukura.
Estimated time to complete tour: 25 mins
Founded in 2011, The Performance Arcade is a free, award-winning festival of live art, music and performance on the Wellington Waterfront.
The Performance Arcade is an acclaimed live art event that attracts 60,000-90,000 people every year to Wellington Waterfront. Every year since 2011 audiences have come for an exciting and diverse programme of works by NZ and International artists, presented within an architectural arrangement of shipping containers.
Art Inside Containers
Open directly to the bustling life of the Wellington Waterfront, our iconic shipping containers are sites of engagement - bringing world class art and performance to the public outside the constraints of a gallery or theatre space.
Local & International Artists
Every year, an exciting selection of performance and installation works from acclaimed performance artists sit alongside a line-up of Aotearoa’s best live music.
MĀTIRO WHAKAMUA
Look beyond the horizon. Our programme for The Performance Arcade 2024 envisioned the performing artist as a time traveller, world builder, and navigator of reimagined horizons. Operating through time and across Wellington's waterfront spaces these artists reimagined the present, past, and future in a vibrant array of new works.
